This story is from Julie who was having a challenging day with her toddler…

One day, my 20 month old called out 3 people on their physical appearance in just ONE trip to the grocery store. I thought I was on hidden camera or something because I couldn’t believe that he just kept doing it.

First, there was a very tall (like 6 feet plus) significantly over weight woman in the customer service line. He pointed right at her and yelled loudly “Big! Big! Big! Biiiiiiig!” I was horrified because she turned to look along with everyone else in the store….

Then, there was an overly spray tanned, basically orange woman, in an aisle with us who had bleached blonde frizzy, messy, just plain crazy hair. She was just a few feet away, and my child pointed right at her and yelled “Mommy, a lion! Lion Mommy! Roar! Roooaaar!”  I was so embarrassed!  It was really hard not to laugh though, and at the same time, I was actually proud of him for making such a creative observation.  Of course, she looked over and gave me a dirty look, but the other person in the aisle with us had to leave the aisle to hide his laughter.

Finally, at checkout, I was underneath the cart throwing everything from the bottom onto the belt when my son yelled “Lady! Lady!” He was pointing towards the cashier and kept yelling it over and over. As I stood up, I wanted to quiet him down so I said, “yes, I see, the lady.”  Just as I was saying it, I made eye contact and realized she isn’t a lady.  I started to apologize for calling her a lady, but then I second guessed myself – I really didn’t know if she was a man or woman.  I didn’t want to be apologizing if, in fact, she is a woman…

Finally, I left the store in a complete daze and couldn’t believe what had happened, but now I see why the show “Kid’s Say the Darndest Things” was so popular!
